Some, but not all, services offer both a web browser interface and a standalone Windows application to browse and launch games. With more than 100 games in its library, which includes the newest games from both first party and third party studios playable at launch, Xbox Game Pass is excellent value for money for most gamers. That’s especially true when the majority of these games can also be played via Xbox Cloud Gaming, even though it’s still technically in beta despite having launched in 2021. Depending on the service, a sticking point of buying any cloud game is that you don’t really own it outright, so if the platform was to switch off the servers you won’t be able to access the game any longer. You can only get into PlayStation’s cloud gaming beta if you pay for the most expensive tier of PS Plus, Premium. With it, you’ll get online feature and access to hundreds of streamable titles including Death Stranding and God of War as well as a healthy library of throwbacks from the PS1 and PS2 era. You don’t need the strongest internet to start streaming on PS Plus, and it even has the lowest minimum required network specs at 5 Mbps.
Unfortunately, gaming hardware isn’t cheap, especially if you want to play AAA games in high resolution with a high frame rate. The best cloud gaming services aim to solve that issue — to an extent. The servers handle the game rendering while sending you a video stream of the end result.
